SUPERGOLDEN APPROXIMATIONS
Supergolden Approximations is an artwork that questions how much detail is required to fully understand something. It is a piece of music that grows step-by-step, following the substitution rule associated with the supergolden ratio. Each step taken is a more detailed look at the piece, and a better approximation of the ratio. It explores how infinitely detailed objects can be described using the simplest building blocks.
Supergolden Approximations was created in collaboration with Felix Flicker, Henna Koivusalo, and Demi Allen, specialists in aperiodic order, fractal geometry and Diophantine approximation, during my time as Artist-in-Residence with University of Bristol School of Mathematics.
